How did I successfully set up my home painting company?

I was a professional painter for almost 25 years now. As every individual, I always dreamed of starting up my own “Home Painting Company” in Miami one day. In 1999, I had started a small company with few painters and office staff but that got shut down within few months. I would like to keep the reason for this to myself. For months I had no income source, the only solution in front of me was to return to home painting services as a painter. I started working in the same company, which I was working earlier. I was happy with my life again. Friends, family, money all was back to me.

Now it had been 15 years to this incidence. My son had completed his Masters in Business Administration from New York. I thought he would prefer to buy work in NYC itself; he had great career opportunities there.  However, God had other plans for us. My son decided to start the home painting company, which was shut down in 1999. I was not very comfortable with the idea. I thought he should concentrate on his own career and not on my broken down dreams. Still, he was firm on his decision. A worried father decided to listen to the business plan of his son. Believe me, when I heard his plan of home painting services in 2015 I understood that this is going to be a big business in short time. Bigger than the company, I was working with.

      Tip No.1: Search what is missing in the market you want to work. The Miami market was missing customisation and special packages for clients. My son pointed out this well and we included this in our business profile.

      Tip No.2: Always prefer to invest on the business cards. They are the most traditional and effective publicity agents of your business. You never know when people need your business information, it’s better if they have it in their pocket. It is preferable to make the business card from a professional designer to stand out from the crowd.

      Tip No.3: Create a professional website. If you think local businesses do not need a website, well you are still in the late eighties. Big businesses already have other means of publicity. A local business shall have a website as it is a 24*7 marketing tool.

      Tip No. 4: Always spend some time on blogging. This may sound a bit odd for you, but trust me this works. I share my total experience gained by working in home painting services for years. This had a great response from readers and my company became popular over the period of time.

      Tip No. 5: Have a circle of great business contacts and well-wishers. Contact builders, contractors, government engineers to have better business opportunities. Always take testimonials of satisfied customers and share them on your website. This brings assurance to potential customers about your home painting company.         

I wish I had these resources back in 1999. Nevertheless, good things happen only when they are supposed to happen. Now it’s end of 2016. My home painting company is one of the top companies in Miami. Seven things you should avoid if doing House Painting yourself

Out of cash, but you still want to make it special? Though it is a bit expensive to hire a house painting services, it is not always necessary to outsource the job. Get out the hidden artist in you by picking up the painting brush this weekend. House painting is a lot of fun if doing it yourself. Call your friends and colleagues to help you out on the task. Just do not forget to give them a yummy treat after the painting is done. 

 

Though the idea sounds thrilling, it may result in failure if necessary care is not taken. We have listed down the seven don’ts for house painting tasks.

1.       Don’t be in a hurry to finish the task. It’s a different ball game with house painting services. If you are doing it yourself, prefer practicing it before. Always be slow to start and perfect to end a task.

2.       Don’t break the order of the job. Always remember the right sequence of doing the painting is to start from the ceiling, then shift on to the walls. After that, you can paint the doors and other wood works. If applicable floor shall be the last portion to be painted. This way your house painting can be carried out with harmony.

3.       Don’t apply latex on oil finish without sanding the wall. Always wear a mask while doing this task. You need to wipe away the dust particles after the sanding is done. Don’t forget to apply primer of the same composition on the desired topcoat.

4.     Don’t apply paint directly on the wallpaper. Always remove the coating by steamer or paper removing solution. If the wallpaper is not coming out you can even power wash it. It will certainly look bad if painted on the wallpaper. Guest can easily make it out too.

5.       Don’t close the doors and windows of the room where house painting is being done. It is necessary to have proper ventilation while the painting job is done. If any person is having asthma in your house, it is recommended to keep that person away until the painting work is completed.    

6.       Don’t be in a hurry to clean the brush and roller if you are planning to use them in a short while. It does not really matter that much. Also, wait for a considerable time to let the paint dry. Do not be in a hurry to bring back the furniture in place.

7.       Don’t attempt to reattach the cover without cleaning the rim of the can. In addition, to further prevent unintentional splatters, place a paper towel or cloth on top of the lid, then close the lid with care. Be sure you do it right, if the lid is not closed properly a thick layer is formed over the liquid paint. This results in wastage of paint.
