How did I successfully set up my home painting company?

I was a professional painter for almost 25 years now. As every individual, I always dreamed of starting up my own “Home Painting Company” in Miami one day. In 1999, I had started a small company with few painters and office staff but that got shut down within few months. I would like to keep the reason for this to myself. For months I had no income source, the only solution in front of me was to return to home painting services as a painter. I started working in the same company, which I was working earlier. I was happy with my life again. Friends, family, money all was back to me.

Now it had been 15 years to this incidence. My son had completed his Masters in Business Administration from New York. I thought he would prefer to buy work in NYC itself; he had great career opportunities there.  However, God had other plans for us. My son decided to start the home painting company, which was shut down in 1999. I was not very comfortable with the idea. I thought he should concentrate on his own career and not on my broken down dreams. Still, he was firm on his decision. A worried father decided to listen to the business plan of his son. Believe me, when I heard his plan of home painting services in 2015 I understood that this is going to be a big business in short time. Bigger than the company, I was working with.

      Tip No.1: Search what is missing in the market you want to work. The Miami market was missing customisation and special packages for clients. My son pointed out this well and we included this in our business profile.

      Tip No.2: Always prefer to invest on the business cards. They are the most traditional and effective publicity agents of your business. You never know when people need your business information, it’s better if they have it in their pocket. It is preferable to make the business card from a professional designer to stand out from the crowd.

      Tip No.3: Create a professional website. If you think local businesses do not need a website, well you are still in the late eighties. Big businesses already have other means of publicity. A local business shall have a website as it is a 24*7 marketing tool.

      Tip No. 4: Always spend some time on blogging. This may sound a bit odd for you, but trust me this works. I share my total experience gained by working in home painting services for years. This had a great response from readers and my company became popular over the period of time.

      Tip No. 5: Have a circle of great business contacts and well-wishers. Contact builders, contractors, government engineers to have better business opportunities. Always take testimonials of satisfied customers and share them on your website. This brings assurance to potential customers about your home painting company.         

I wish I had these resources back in 1999. Nevertheless, good things happen only when they are supposed to happen. Now it’s end of 2016. My home painting company is one of the top companies in Miami.
